In my later days at Azalea Graphics, I had the pleasure of working with author Annie Morecambe on a website redesign for her series of books, The Legend of Grewyinds. The new site was to be colorful, to appeal to “tween” girls (just like her series of books); it would be a direct purchase point for Annie’s books and other merchandise; and it would serve as a blog, where fans could communicate with the author, learn about upcoming events, and be inspired through tales of Annie’s adventures, as both a writer and an entrepreneur.
To accomplish all of this, I proposed development of a WordPress website and suggested various paid themes with WooCommerce built in. By using a theme with a storefront already assembled/included, we could focus on simply adding products to it and plugging along. The added benefit of going the WordPress route is that, since it is first and foremost a blog environment, it gives Annie the freedom to add new topics/posts, herself, anytime she likes, without additional web design/development costs.
After a theme was selected, I got down to changing the color scheme, adjusting the layout for our purposes (we didn’t need every last page style or widget that came with the theme) and creating/adding custom elements, such as logos and other graphics.
